One of the most interesting questions I get is who or what is Biko? The name biko09121977, is to honor the late stephen Biko, a political activist who was killed by south African police in september of 1977. He was the other 911 in history.
Eeeehm, if he was killed, as your screen name implies, on September 29th 1977 how can he be referred to as "the other 911 i history" surely lots of political figures hve been killed in September and does that compare to the violent death of 4000 and the collapse of one of the world's greatest symbolic buildings? I've never heardof the man or what he stood for, was he the south African MLK so to speak? And what did he fight for, what madehis murder so famous?
Please provide more historical insight if you please.

Steven Biko was a black political activist who died in police custody under what might be considered to be somewhat questionable circumstances. It had been aledged that he died as a result of police brutality, however this was never proved.
Having grown up in south Africa, I can say in all honesty that he is not seen as another "911" of history. In fact many have made a greater impact, such as Nelson Mandela for instance who was jailed for being a member of the African National Congres, who was, in effect, considered to be a terrorist, and who spent the best part of 30 years on Robin Island. who was then released and went on to become the first Black president of the "new south africa". I'm afraid that by comparison, Steven Biko is little known..
No the 6 million jews countless gay/lb and bi,the 100's of disabled children, the gypsies and blacks are comparable to 911..
And while we'er on the subject why do americans continually refer to 911, they use it as an excuse for their dispicable behaviour on this planet...do us a favour Britian was attacked on a daily basis by the IRA ,but, we never demanded that the world forgives us, or fals in love with us, because we were victims of terrorisim...britian's record in Northertn Ireland is derisible....
...and so america's terrible attitude towards the arab nation, was responsible for 911,you brought it on yourselves you just dont want to face the truth...and no I'm not a supporter of Al Qaeda just a realist...
Well, 911 sounds good, it can be used to maniuplate the nation into following the policies of the few neo conservatives that sadly have taken hold of the white house and eehm well goblin is basically dead on I'd have to agree with this pretty much. I can't say anyone deserves an event such as this and I think it was a horrible thing and I think the worst act of terrorism in decades .. let's face is the IRA attacks never killed more than a hundred people at any one time (I believe, I may be wrong o this) but, yes, this has been used relentlessly as an excuse for all sorts of politically incorrect and violent and aggressive act to "change the world" or "rid the world of terrorism" and such claptrap which in essence and right underneat the surface are motivated by economic factors such as oil exploitation or the ideals of the few men who happen to have taken hold of the top positions in domestic politics.

yep agreed - the fact of the matter is that most countries had been victims of terrorism before 911, and the americans even supported the IRA. and the reality of it is that America thought it was untouchable, and while no one would condone such an act, it's time we moved on.
ohh all of a sudden we'er all friends again...
Sometimes people agree on a common topic, sometimes they don't, it doesn't always have to be personal. Not to start up more personal fights or arguments, but when I agree I will express that agreement, if I feel neutral about a topic or post or feel I have nothing to say/add I will stay out of it, if I strongly disagree with views or whatever else the material is I will express that disapproval whoever the poster is. It isn't personal, despite what other people may think, I will neither be drawn nor quartered to discuss this in any greater depth.

Oh, the united states isn't as well off as everyone thinks. our government has done some shit to.

in reality, the troubles in northern ireland were britain's 911, and I hate that term 911. I say the troubles in northern ireland were britain's equivilant of the terroist attacks on america in 2001 because there were roughly 3000 ppl killed over theirty years by the paramilitary forces in n ireland.
wo, shit.
oh, and the shit tha'ts going on in the middle east, they've been fighfighting for years.

Biko I have a genuine medieval rack and eh I'm trying to accquire a trebuchet, {and no this is not a joke} though where 1 would store such a thing is another matter...
Hi, I'm living in South Africa.
I want to make it clear to all of you that Steve Biko is not a national hero in many households in this country.
There are many, and I mean MANY other people in this country, who had to endure sufferings much worse than those of mr Biko.
And unfortunately for some of you, not all of these sufferers are black.
I'm afraid that the media in most other countries only tell the public certain things, certain shit.
You should maybe consider to study the entire South African history, the "multiratial" history of this country; then you will see that Biko was not necessarily the good guy.
